Bomb blast mars voting in Belfast

A bomb planted by Irish nationalist guerrillas at the start of voting in Britain's general election wounded a British soldier and damaged a police and Army station in Belfast.

The bomb exploded despite a massive election-day security operation by 20,000 troops and police throughout the British-ruled province. Guerrillas of the Irish National Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the blast. Sinn Fein, political wing of the outlawed Irish Republican Army, is contesting 14 of the province's 17 seats in the British Parliament.
