US stand on sex equality in education is criticized

The administration is trying to reduce its enforcement of equal-education laws, defying national policy, the US Civil Rights Commission charged. The Justice Department has indicated it will not argue forcefully for broad protections of sex equality in a case before the Supreme Court concerning Grove City College of Pennsylvania, the commission said.

In addition, the panel released a report unanimously criticizing the administration for what it said is a failure to name enough women, blacks, and Hispanics to high-level, full-time positions.
