Begin survives test votes on last day of parliament

Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin's coalition government survived no-confidence motions by six votes on the final day of parliament's summer session. It defeated motions by the opposition Labor Party and the leftist Shinui and communist Rakah parties on government economic, social, and political policies.

In Bir Zeit on the Israeli-occupied West Bank, Israeli troops injured four students who were protesting the killing of three Palestinians by unidentified gunmen in Hebron. Earlier, Israeli troops killed an Arab woman during protests in Nablus.

In Washington, Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Arens and Foreign Minister Yitzhak Shamir met again with US officials. After Tuesday's talks, Mr. Arens said the US did not ask Israel to delay its controversial redeployment of troops in southern Lebanon.
