Drop goes on in the ratio of males to females in US

Women continue to outnumber men in the United States, except in rural areas where men have a slight edge, the Census Bureau reported. The long-term drop in the ratio of males to females continued: In 1980 there were 94.5 males for each 100 females in the country. In 1970 there were 94.8 males per 100 females.

The 1980 census also showed that the median age of the population, the point at which half the people are older and half younger, was 30 years in 1980. And it said senior citizens numbered more than 25.5 million, or 11.3 percent of the population.
