Factory output up 1.8%; house construction slows

Factory production climbed a strong 1.8 percent in July, the second-biggest improvement this year and only 3.5 percent away from full recovery from the recession, Federal Reserve system economists said. But new housing construction slowed down 0.6 percent in July despite a surge in apartment building projects, the Commerce Department reported.
