Mississippi voters select gubernatorial candidates

State Attorney General Bill Allain, billing himself as the state's consumer champion, captured Mississippi's Democratic gubernatorial nomination. He spoiled a bid by Evelyn Gandy to become the state's first woman governor. Mr. Allain now faces wealthy Republican businessman Leon Bramlett of Clarksdale and black independent Charles Evers in the Nov. 8 general election.
