Rural home ownership outpaced city homes

The rate of home construction and percentage of home ownership was higher among rural than city dwellers in the 1970s, according to the Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The report said 35 percent of the nation's 24.1 million occupied rural homes were built between 1970 and 1980, nearly double the 18 percent proportion that were built in urban areas in the same decade.
