Mountains of rubbish began disappearing from Belgium's streets Monday after public service workers ended an unsuccessful nine-day strike against planned pay and benefit cuts. The strike collapsed Friday night when the Socialist Trade Union Federation voted reluctantly to accept the government's offer of minor improvements.
