Beirut airport reopened after a month of fighting

Beirut's international airport was reopened Thursday under an agreement reached by representatives of Lebanon's four main warring factions - the Lebanese Army and Lebanon's three main militias - Shiite Muslim, Christian, and Druze. The airport had been closed for more than a month by factional fighting around the capital.

The dispute over the airport arose Wednesday when Druze militia accused the Lebanese Army of using the airport as a military base and threatened to take ''military action'' if it were reopened.

Meanwhile, two US Army soldiers were kidnapped Thursday by masked gunmen while driving through Beirut's rebel-controlled southern suburbs and later rescued by Shiite Muslim militiamen.
