Grenada invasion plans drawn days before event

Multinational intervention in Grenada was originally conceived at the suggestion of ''a US official'' as a plan to rescue the late Grenadian Prime Minister Maurice Bishop from house arrest, Barbadian Prime Minister Tom Adams said.

Mr. Adams said Wednesday night that a tentative offer to Barbados was first made on Oct. 15.

On Oct. 19 ''it was agreed to proceed with a rescue plan in collaboration with eastern Caribbean countries and larger non-Caribbean countries with the resources necessary to carry out such an intricate operation,'' he said. ''As we all know now, this proved to be in vain.''

On Oct. 19, Mr. Bishop was rescued from house arrest by a crowd of supporters , but then shot dead by Grenadia troops.
