Computer can jumble TV signal

Do your kids complain about diagonal lines on the TV screen when you're operating the home computer? Or do you complain about the lines when your kids are using the computer?

Electronics experts say radio frequency (RF) energy generated by a computer's circuits can be picked up by the TV, causing interference: Home computers and their cables and accessories generally are not shielded to prevent the RF energy from radiating into the surrounding area.

To deal with the problem, the Federal Communications Commission is requiring manufacturers to install circuits that reduce a set's vulnerability to such interference. For sets already in use, a high-pass filter, costing up to $15, can be installed, experts say.
