Anrig calls merit testing for teachers ill-advised

Gregory R. Anrig, executive director of the Educational Testing Service (preparers of the SAT and other standardized tests) Tuesday said ''the pendulum of teacher testing is swinging fast and in a direction that I feel is ill-advised for education.''

He said he still endorses the use of teacher tests for establishing eligibility for state certification to enter the teaching profession.
