Town turns to geothermal power

San Bernardino will save an estimated 23,000 barrels of oil under a $2.75 million grant to use local geothermal energy. The project is the largest project of its kind in the United States.

In first phase, hot water from an underground well is being used by the city's water treatment plant. The ultimate plan will be to pipe additional hot water from the well to nearby motels and other businesses.
