Grenda's stand-in regime plans to complete airport
Grenada's caretaker government said Wednesday it had decided to press ahead with the construction of the island's new international airport, begun with substantial Cuban help.
The airport at Port Salines was at the center of controversy between the Reagan administration and the government of former Prime Minister Maurice Bishop.
A government statement said the project had to be completed in the interest of the island's economic development. US officials have said it would cost $10 million to $15 million to finish the airport. It was unclear whether the US would help finance the work, they said.
