Famine kills millions of African children: UN chief
UN Secretary General Javier Perez de Cuellar said Monday that nearly 5 million African children die each year and another 5 million are handicapped for life due to malnutrition and hunger.
The secretary general, who will visit West Africa shortly, said he and senior aides would be seeking the advice of African ambassadors to the UN on how to increase public awarness of the problem and how to generate needed resources.
