Indiana A-plant added to list of US casualties

The Public Service Company of Indiana has announced it cannot afford to continue construction on its half-finished Marble Hill nuclear project near Hanover, Ind., Monitor correspondent Lucia Mouat writes.

As with most of the 100 other nucler plants over the last decade on which construction has been canceled, key reasons are lack of financing and the questionable benefit for consumers who have cut back on electricity. The cost of completing the two Marble Hill units is estimated at $7 billion; the utility had already spent $2.5 billion.
