Special elections give GOP control in Michigan Senate

Republicans took control of the Michigan Senate for the first time in 10 years by easily winning two special elections Tuesday called after voters ousted Democratic incumbents for supporting higher taxes.

Republican candidates in two suburban Detroit districts ran up victory margins of better than 2 to 1 and gave their party a 20-18 edge in seats in the Michigan Senate.
