Bush leaves for Europe to confer on NATO issues

Vice-President George Bush leaves today for a five-day visit to Luxembourg, West Germany, and Britain to confer with government leaders on issues affecting the NATO alliance.

It will be Mr. Bush's third swing through North Atlantic Treaty Organization nations in a little over a year, but it will be the first time Luxembourg has been on his itinerary.

Bush's office said the visit provides an opportunity to continue consultations with Washington's European allies on nuclear arms policy and efforts to ease East-West tensions.

Twice last year Bush was dispatched to Western Europe by President Reagan to shore up NATO support for the deployment there of US Pershing II and cruise missiles.
