Jordan's Prime Minister Ahmed Obeidat Monday condemned the embassy burning as a premeditated criminal act and said that Jordan had lodged a strong protest with the Libyan government.

Libya has not acknowledged that the embassy was burned.

Jordanian Ambassador Sami Shamayleh and his staff escaped from the burning building ''with great difficulty'' but were unharmed, state-run Jordanian television said. It said the building was destroyed.
