UNESCO chief to allow US inquiry of operations

UNESCO Director General Amadou Mahtar M'Bow has agreed to allow a team of US congressional investigators to investigate his organization's internal workings, diplomats said Wednesday.

The decision follows the Reagan administration's announcement in December that it will pull out of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization at the end of this year unless the group reforms itself.

The Reagan administration has complained that ''trends in the management, policy, and budget of UNESCO have detracted from the organization's effectiveness.''
