New York City school board suspends chancellor

Anthony Alvarado's suspension with pay from his job as chancellor of the nation's largest school system began Monday while lawyers for the Board of Education began drawing up specific charges against him.

The vote comes three days after the city's Department of Investigation issued a scathing report on the chancellor's personal financial dealings. The report said Alvarado obtained loans from school subordinates through ''inherently coercive and frequently deceptive'' means.
