An Irish political group calls for reunification
The New Ireland Forum, composed of leading politicians from both parts of Ireland, called for Irish reunification Wednesday as the best way to end 15 years of sectarian and political violence in British-ruled Northern Ireland.
The group was set up by Prime Minister Garret FitzGerald a year ago and is made up of the island's main democratic nationalist parties.
The Forum outlined two other possible options for Ireland's future: a federal arrangement with parliaments in Belfast and Dublin, or ''joint authority'' over Northern Ireland by London and Dublin, with Protestants holding dual citizenship.
The leaders appealed to the British government to join their initiative to end the sectarian warfare and said Britain had not done enough to end the violence in the North.
