Murdoch lashes out at TV documentary

Australian publisher Rupert Murdoch is starting to strike back at his critics. On Wednesday, Mr. Murdoch's attorney accused a TV documentary on Murdoch of ''lack of balance and reckless disregard of facts'' and requested a screening of the second installment for factual accuracy ''in order to avoid litigation.'' Murdoch was attacked by several former employees in Hodding Carter's ''Inside Story'' on PBS, aired last Friday.

Senior executive producer Ned Schnurman responded that he would not allow prior review by counsel for the subject of any show. Mr. Schnurman insists that the second part of the documentary, which airs tonight (9-9:30 p.m., PBS) meets any test for ''fairness, objectivity, and journalistic integrity.''
