Endless evening

Ah, summer: barbecuing in the backyard . . . tanning on the beach . . . playing baseball in daylight at midnight . . . At midnight?

Sure - as long as you're close to the Arctic Circle. In Fairbanks, Alaska, they're playing the Midnight Sun Baseball Game on the first official day of summer, June 21, to celebrate the summer solstice. Game time: 11 p.m. No artificial lights needed, thank you.

Now that's the kind of daylight hours a lot of us wished for when we were school kids, playing neighborhood baseball by the hour until pulled back to our homes by the fall of darkness.
