Uruguayans protesters urge freeing of opposition leader

More than 20,000 people marched through the streets of Montevideo Monday to demand the release of detained Uruguayan opposition leader Wilson Ferreira Aldunate and an amnesty for political prisoners.

The demonstrators carried the white flags of the centrist Blanco Party, witnesses said. The party has chosen Mr. Ferreira as its presidential candidate for elections to be held in November.
