Pakistani women protest law eroding their word in court

More than 50 women defied a ban on demonstrations Thursday and staged a peaceful protest at the home of southern Pakistan's military governor, witnesses said. Police did not intervene. They were protesting against an Islamic law that views the testimony given by a woman in court to be worth only half that given by a man. The federal Cabinet had approved a draft bill Wednesday to revise the law of evidence to conform with Islamic Law
