US to offer to take prisoners, Asian-US children in Vietnam

The Reagan administration unveiled a plan Tuesday to offer asylum to Vietnamese political prisoners and to accept as refugees all Asian-American children in Vietnam.

Secretary of State George Shultz told members of Congress the administration was proposing a ceiling of 50,000 refugee admissions from Southeast Asia in fiscal 1985, which starts Oct. 1.
