Tracking down the truth

Once inside the laboratory you leave the Id behind, laying it aside as casually as an unfinished letter. You forget who you are. All that counts now is the lab coat and science's trifocal vision. For days you may hunt for meanings in the meaningless, searching in color and viscosity for answers to questions never asked, absorbed in exploring the privacy of tissue and puzzling over the migration of cells. You know how impossible it is; and yet you go on piecing together the parts of a truth that may never exist.
