Senate vote crushes filibuster against 1984 Civil Rights Act

The Senate voted 92 to 4 Saturday to crush a filibuster by conservatives against Civil Rights Act of 1984. The action limits debate on the measure and will permit a vote this week on attaching the legislation to a funding bill needed to keep the government solvent in the new fiscal year, which begins today.
