Moon base among projects discussed by US scientists
Several hundred scientists and engineers gathered at the National Academy of Sciences here Monday to discuss space projects to follow - particularly the establishment of a permanent base on the moon.
The symposium, sponsored by NASA, is part of an effort to decide the direction of space exploration after an $8 billion permanent manned station is put in orbit around 1992. The space station, declared a national goal by President Reagan, is only in the preliminary design stage now.
