St. Lawrence Seaway open again, with grain on move

The St. Lawrence Seaway, closed since Nov. 21 after a drawbridge near Valleyfield jammed and trapped about 160 ships in the waterway, opened again Monday. A Seaway spokesman said 20 vessels would be able to move each day.

The disruption had stopped grain shipments from ports in the United States and Canada. Shipping sources said it cost up to $1.2 million each day the ships were immobilized.
