UNESCO, information order win backing in UN Assembly

The third-world majority won easy adoption Monday, over Western objections, of a General Assembly resolution expressing strong support for UNESCO and its efforts to promote a ''new world information and communication order.''
Third-world countries have been pressing for a new information order to counter what they consider unfair coverage of developing countries by large Western news organizations. Western states have expressed concern that aspects of the new information order would encourage governments to censor news coverage.
