UNESCO chief says pullout by US won't hurt operations

Ahmed Mokhtar M'bow, a Senegalese who has headed UNESCO for the past 10 years , said Thursday that the US withdrawal from the agency would not harm its operations.

The US confirmed Wednesday that it would withdraw from the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization on Dec. 31, and said the move should serve as a warning to other international organizations that mismanagement and anti-Western policies could jeopardize US support.
