EPA revises hazardous waste rules; clamps down on dioxin

The Environmental Protection Agency announced Friday a major revision of its regulations and said the new rules would prevent such environmental disasters as the contamination of Times Beach, Mo., with dioxin compounds.

The two-part package brings a large number of wastes and recycling practices under EPA's jurisdiction and defines all dioxins as hazardous wastes. The regulations take effect in six months, after more than four years of work.
