Demonstrators protest US pressure on Japanese whaling

About 200 people demonstrated outside the US Embassy in Tokyo Thursday to protest US pressure on Japan's whaling industry, witnesses said. Demonstration leaders handed embassy officials a letter, addressed to the US ambassador, in which they called on Washington to help the Japanese whaling industry to survive.

About 60,000 Japanese depend on whaling for their livelihood, industry sources said.
