VOLCANIC RECOVERY

Tourists (a million a year), scientists, and elk flock to Mount St. Helens, where five years ago occurred one of the most destructive geological events in history. Some 90 percent of plant species have returned since, and 150,000 acres have been replanted in what is now a national monument. Future major eruptions are expected to be accurately predicted.
