Robt Day writes to the children

Robert Day was Robt Day in the signature on most of his widely published cartoons, but he was Dad or Grandpa or Senator Slurp in the letters to which he also generously applied his hand. ``His unadorned brush drawings, with their juicy, effortlessly flowing line, were as elegant as anything we ever published,'' said The New Yorker in eulogy earlier this year. On this page we are privileged to print parts of his family letters, with samples of his familiar cartoon style on the facing page. They ar e among the original works and memorabilia in a retrospective exhibition (through Nov. 9) at the Leland Gallery in Rogers, Ark.
