May light

LIGHT came to Vermont with the first spring warmth the past weekend. Flowering crabapples and cherries shimmered -- puffs of pink, each of their billions of petals invested with the sun's rays. Harder lavenders and blues seeped from lilac clusters. Poplars in the valleys and at the forest's edge shone vivid lime, a hue seen only briefly at this moment of the year or in a child's crayon. Crowns of trees on mountain slopes formed fragile, luminescent crystal moguls. What power in spring, its quick decisive leverage -- before lawns deepen into summer-long green, trees complete their canopies, and shade settles over dooryards and forest floor.

In case you missed it.
