The Haunting of Barney Palmer (PBS, 8-9 p.m.): ``Wonderworks'' offers a suspense tale about young Barney Palmer, who fears he has magical powers. Based on Margaret Nahy's novel. SUNDAY

Star Quality (PBS, 9-10:30 p.m.): Premi`ere of five-part ``Masterpiece Theatre'' series, adaptations of No"el Coward short stories, starring Susannah York and Ian Richardson. MONDAY

Yukon Quest (PBS, 8-9 p.m.): ``Adventure'' series deals with Rick Atkinson and his obsession to win a 1,000-mile dog-sled race along the frozen Yukon River.

Stone Fox (NBC, 8-10 p.m.): Gordon Tootoosis, a Cree Indian, plays the title role in story about a perilous dog-sled race.

The 59th Annual Academy Awards Presentation (ABC, 9-end): The suspenseful show millions of moviegoers have been waiting for. TUESDAY

A Special Friendship (CBS, 9-11): Dramatic Civil War tale about friendship between wealthy white woman (Tracy Pollan) and her former slave, Mary Bowser (Akosua Busia).

Street Cop (PBS, 9-10 p.m.): ``Frontline'' takes a gritty look at law enforcement in Boston's most violent police district.

Max Headroom (ABC, 10-11 p.m.): Premi`ere of action series starring Matt Frewer as an investigative TV reporter with Max Headroom as his computer alter ego.

Soldiers of the Summit (PBS, 10-11 p.m.): Documentary tells story of men of the 10th Mountain Division during World War II. WEDNESDAY

Roxie (CBS, 8-8:30 p.m.): Andrea Martin stars in new comedy series about a small, struggling New York TV station.

Carmen (PBS, 8-11 p.m.): ``Live From the Met'' presents Bizet's opera, starring Jos'e Carreras, Samuel Ramey, and Gabriela Benackova. Mariah (ABC, 10-11 p.m.): Premi`ere of dramatic series about professionals whose careers are centered around prison work. THURSDAY

Cover her Face (PBS, 9-10 p.m.): In ``Mystery!'' series Adam Dalgliesh grills friends and contacts of Stavros Zeludis in his quest to find the Cypriot's killer.
