Weinberger disregards Iranian `threats' to US ships in Gulf

The Navy does not expect Iran to attack American ships in the Persian Gulf despite threats made on Tehran Radio, Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger said yesterday. In the past, Iran has avoided threats toward United States ships, said Mr. Weinberger. ``US centers and nuclear reactors can be more vulnerable than the missile bases of ... Iran,'' Tehran Radio said. ``Should America become embroiled with the Islamic Republic, the vulnerability ... would be high.''
