I am raising a wealthy child

My daughter is learning to crawl. Over and over she rises to knees & elbows & starts after the cat & dog, eager to play catch with the world. One yellow leaf startles her landing against her knee

& the day is laughter & good bread held in one delicate fist. I tell her each road

is hers, each flying bird her own heart's friend; sun warm on her palm & cheek

a secure treasure
