Upon the terrace, the student lately come to settle in new scenes, listens to the drum of waves as they pound the shore. Far away, the lightning flashes in a sky of gray which presses down its glittering rain to make tiny restless ripples on the lake. The student sits and feels upon her face the spray, the wind. So different, this place from inland farms and small towns she has known and she is here, upon her own, alone. The lights go on behind her in the Hall and she goes in as night begins to fall, plays the piano in passing; in her room studies awhile and sleeps. If the boom of water wakes her sometime in the night, she is acquainted now, and it seems right and lovable here, She smiles and slightly stirs, knowing the memories of home have made it hers.
