Kinds of Gates

I like a gate that creaks When the mailman comes, Wrought-iron with scrolls and leaves. A farm gate, of course, should swing Back and forth to let Cows out or in, should have Four oaken slats, or five. The gate to a prison should be Lubricated with oil Compressed from pity. As for That pearly gate that defies Description, I might prefer Something less showy, a bit More practical as it were. I'm always tempted to climb A garden gate, alas, Where someone has posted a large Sign: DO NOT TRESPASS.
