PHONE STRIKE GRINDS ON IN NEW ENGLAND

NYNEX Corporation and its striking workers abandoned contract talks early Saturday after a day of on-again, off-again negotiations. ``Nothing was resolved, and no more negotiating sessions have been scheduled,'' said Adele Stacy of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Union leaders said the company appeared to be pushing to reach a settlement by midnight Friday, but the talks ended fruitlessly early Saturday morning.

Representatives of both sides said Saturday that they were working to schedule renewed talks.

Union leaders said the six-week strike had been significantly strengthened by a Massachusetts ruling that the workers would be entitled to unemployment benefits starting next week.

NYNEX, the corporate parent of New England Telephone, has said it will appeal the state's decision.
