GREEK DEPUTIES SET TO PROSECUTE PAPANDREOU

Former Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou, the first Greek civilian leader ordered to stand trial for wrongdoing in office, is almost certain to face charges of involvement in an embezzlement scandal. The Greek parliament, which has ordered Papandreou to stand trial on charges of widespread telephone bugging during his eight-year socialist rule, votes Wednesday on whether to charge him in connection with the bank scandal.

The long-awaited debate was overshadowed by the murder of a senior official of the conservative New Democracy Party, which has led the drive to drag former Socialist ministers into court.
