MANUEL CLOUTHIER MEXICAN LEADER

Manuel Clouthier, former presidential candidate and leader of Mexico's rightist National Action Party (PAN), was killed in a car crash Sunday. The PAN leader placed third in the July 1988 presidential election with 16 percent of the vote. He was to have met with Baja California governor-elect Ernesto Ruffo Appel, who won an unprecedented victory for PAN in July state elections.
