ORTEGA RENEWS CALL TO DISBAND CONTRA FORCES

Outgoing Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega Saavedra said Saturday the Sandinistas were willing to work with President-elect Violeta Barrios de Chamorro but would defend the status of the country's Army and police forces. Mr. Ortega said that disarming the anti-Sandinista contras remained the chief roadblock to a peaceful transition. In Honduras, a contra leader Saturday said rebels were prepared to disband from Honduran camps if Mrs. Chamorro can guarantee their safe return home.
