Winter Thoughts

There are the copper leaves That rot round trees Adding their vegetable soul To tired roots Nursing their future offsprings Where no sap has moved. A kind of make-belief Or faith descends with them. They know they'll alter, Lose their outward shape, But in decay they foster, Feed, tell us of certainty.
