US-SAUDI ARMS DEAL POSTPONED BY GULF CRISIS

The United States and Saudi Arabia have agreed to postpone a big arms deal until after the Gulf crisis is over, according to the US State Department. The deal, estimated at $15 billion, would have been the second part of a $21.5 billion arms sale and would have been the largest single arms package in history.

The sale was put off, a State Department spokesman said Friday, because of the need to ``further assess Saudi arms needs in the context of the post-crisis environment.''
