Water Gardens

Now the calyx of ice has broken, and the waterfall

bursts into flower.

The bloom is all

eddies and foam and spray, and in a trice

the water thrushes rush to the bower

and drink of blue nectar.

They serenade

the verdant cascade

of mists and pebbles. Up, up they climb

with their music, matching the chime

of the waves. It is a song

continual as the flowing of the slopes, strong

with floodtime.

The thrushes throng

hidden nooks, ravines, honey-sweet

gardens of waters.
